Andrew Smith Obituary

Andy Smith passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his home in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew Joseph Smith, Sr., and Elda Gibson Smith. Andy was born in Richmond on May 23, 1938, and graduated in 1956 as valedictorian from St. Patrick High School. He earned his BA from the University of Richmond, where he also attended graduate school. He served as President of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Andy taught English and French from 1962 to 1964 at Benedictine College Preparatory. He retired from a successful IBM career in 1993 and fully enjoyed a variety of activities during his 29 years of retirement. A lifelong Catholic he spent many years in service to the Cathedral of Christ The King in Atlanta as sacristan and lector. Andy is survived by his former wife and always best friend, Lyndle, and their sons: Andrew J. III, Christopher, and Dennis (Julie). Also, surviving are his sister, Barbara S. Yurachek (John), and brother, Anthony E. Smith (Barbara). A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on May 23 at 10 am at The Cathedral of Christ The King in Atlanta, and live-streamed using the link https://livestream.com/ctk and click on Mass of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.lovetotherescue.org).
