Margaret Weigel Obituary

Our beloved mother, Margaret Mary Weigel 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, after a long battle with dementia.  She joins her beloved husband James (Jim) of 41 years, who passed in 2003.

Margaret was born in St. Paul, MN on April 17, 1941, to Frederick John Baker and Mary Ann (Keller) Baker, and she graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School in St. Paul.  Margaret and Jim lived in St. Paul and then near Duluth, MN for many years where she worked in retail and raised her family.  Later in life she lived for several winters in Punta Gorda, Fla, where she was very engaged with her retirement community.  Margaret and Jim loved to spend time with family at their lake house on Pelican Lake near Brainerd, MN.  She had many great friends throughout her life and was very active with golfing, bowling, playing bridge and volunteering at the local Lioness Club and Catholic churches.  She loved to travel and left behind many fond memories of trips with friends and family.  Her family brought her much joy, and she truly enjoyed spending time with everyone in her life.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband James F. Weigel and her parents Fred and Mary Baker, and her brother Stephen (Judy) Baker.

Margaret is survived by her brother Thomas Baker (Marguerite) and her sister Helen Flynn (Thomas) and her children Theresa Kelly of Rutherford, NJ, Janet Canton of Champlin, MN, Kris Martins of Atlanta, GA, Susan (Chris) Guimbellot of Panama City Beach, FL and her grandchildren Garrett Canton, Dennis Kelly and Henry Kelly.  She is also survived by her four nieces and one nephew, their spouses and children who she always loved dearly.

We would like to thank everyone at the Orchard of Brookhaven which Margaret called home for the last 5 years for all the love, care, and compassion they provided throughout her journey.  She was blessed to have them in her life. We also want to thank Tanya and Monica with Agape Hospice for their wonderful and loving care of Margaret.

The family is planning a memorial service in August 2024 in Cross Lake, MN.  Additional details will be provided at a later date.
