RL Wood

RL Wood—dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend—passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

RL was born to Ramon Lester and Thelma Wood in Ashburn, GA on May 7, 1944. He graduated from Turner County High School in 1962 before enlisting in the United States Air Force; he served in Turkey, Germany, and Warner Robbins, Georgia.  RL then enrolled in South Georgia College in Douglas, GA, and later transferred to the University of Georgia where he earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Physics. He worked in computer programming for the majority of his career.

Anyone who knew RL knew he loved Georgia Bulldog football. A devoted fan, RL embraced his love for the color red and donned his Bulldog attire every day.  He also loved stocks, sci-fi, and superheroes and was always up for a glass of red wine.  Most of all, RL enjoyed spending time with his family—particularly joyful for his visits with his grandsons.

RL Wood is survived by his wife, Tina Wood; his children: Sandra Bairfield and husband Mike; Cindy Jockers, husband Jon and two sons Jakob and Gavin; and his brother Bill Wood. RL is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. RL was preceded in death by his father and mother; his sister Carolyn Belk; his sister Ginger Foskey; and his brother Ronnie Wood. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dunwoody at 2:00 pm on November 6, 2022, with a military burial on Tuesday, November 8 in Andersonville, Georgia.
